Progress!

While I obviously am a bad blogger, I've been doing a bit better with the knitting lately.

Progress has been made on Lucy...

And since then even more. I've finished both sleeves and am ready to join to the body. Unfortunately, this will be my second attempt at the joining. For some reason,(probably because the second smallest size would seem to fit me best)I thought I made the second smallest size of this sweater. So I followed the joining instructions for that size and continued merrily along, getting six very long rows done before realizing that something looked a little odd. Eventually I decided that something really was wrong, lay the sweater down and took a good hard look. The fronts were different sizes... very different. The left front looked normal, and the right front was mini. Like, very mini, and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I fought back the despair that threatened to drag me down and started tinking back. (Unless I'm starting over, ripping back really makes me nervous, I never think I'll be able to find all those stitches again.) Six rows later I had my original sleeves and body back. I put the sweater away, and refused to think about it for a few days.
After gathering my courage, I finally decided it was time to figure out what I had done wrong. After counting the stitches (three or four times), I incredulously realized I had made the smallest size. The 30 inch bust size... for my 36 inches around self. Needless to say, Lucy has been languishing since then. I will finish, but maybe not right away.

Instead of finishing Lucy, I made a scarf.

It was short, (actually it's quite short) sweet, and it made me happy after the Lucy fiasco. Also, I think it will make a lovely present for my secret santa at work, who is four months pregnant and always cold (though I'll have to find a nice closure for it first). It is made from Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Superchunky and the pattern is from One Skein.

Also, I've been working on wisp.

Have I mentioned how much I hate Kidsilk Haze? No? That's because I didn't realize it until I had been working on this thing for a while. This yarn is basically string. Fuzzy string. That sheds. And has no give. I hate it. But the finished product is turning out lovely, and that's what counts. It was meant to be a bachelorette party gift for my friend who got married in August, but it wasn't done. Then I thought I'd give it to her for her birthday in November, but it wasn't done. Then I realized if I wanted to finish it, I would actually have to work on it concertedly, so I have been. Actually it's all I've been knitting lately, which is why my hatred for the is yarn running so deep.

In stash enhancement news, my mom was here over Thanksgiving weekend (which was wonderful, thanks for asking), and she bought me some beautiful yarn when we went to Hilltop. It is two skeins of Handmaiden Great Big Sea, which is absolutely divine. I think I'll use it to make Clapotis, because it is gorgeous, and I have to make something really beautiful with this.

Later, what I want to make people for holiday gifts, and debates on whether I'm actually delusional or just optimistic.

Long time no post...

So I haven't posted in a long time, but I have been knitting albeit slowly. The body of Lucy is done up to the armpits, and I have one sleeve almost done. I'm somewhat unsure about how the whole yoke shaping and joining of the sleeves will go. Those will be new techniques for me, so we'll have to see how they go!

One thing I'm pretty psyched about is that so far I don't think I've made any mistakes. In my last sweater, I made a pretty big pretty noticeable error in the lace pattern and didn't notice it until it was to late to tink back, and I didn't know how to fix it later.

Wish me luck! Photos when it's done :)

Baby Things!

I am so excited, I found out today that two of my friends at work are pregnant! First of all I'm excited because they're both great, and are going to be so cute pregnant, and... BABIES!!!

Secondly, I'm psyched because I get to knit baby stuff! A few things I want to do:
EZ February Sweater

Saartje's Booties

Curlicue Coverlet

Baby Surprise Jacket

And I'm sure other things to be added!

In actual knitting news, I've made some progress on the Lucy Cardigan, but it's been somewhat slow. I've found that cardigans go slower than pullovers, with all the purling... :\

Progress

So, this weekend was the beginning of the real rainy season here in Seattle. Because of this, there was no house painting done. Also because of this, I made progress on my Lucy in the Sky cardigan! I've now got about 3.5 to 4 inches knit, which is awesome. The pattern says to work until the piece measures 13.5 inches though and I think I'll need to lengthen it to make it wearable on me. Basically with my additional inches it's like I'm starting at the bottom now. Ah well, I've got a road trip in my future, and hopefully I'll be able to knit a lot while M drives. We'll be in the car for a long time as we're going to L.A. to see my family. I'm excited because Mat hasn't seen my L.A., where I grew up, my parents houses, Topanga! My step mom is also throwing us an engagement party, which should be fun, and it gives us a chance to see a lot of people we wouldn't otherwise. Yay vacation!

Want to Knit but...

House painting has killed my hands. Mat and I have spent this entire weekend (and I mean entire, from getting home Friday after work until now) impeaching the peach! Our house was a hideous peach color, and we've been living with it unhappily for the last year plus. This weekend we covered it up with a nice gray green (hosta). The trim isn't done yet, but it will be this off whitish color (ash).

I got a couple rows done on my Lucy cardigan last night, and I hope to do more tonight, but I'm not sure how much I'll get done before my hands stop working on me.

But hey, no peach house, that's an accomplishment!

First post! Recent FOs

Since I'm planning on this being a mostly knitting project space I should probably post some FOs!.

My most recent:
Fetching from Knitty.

Made from Debbie Bliss Cashmerino in a lovely chocolatey brown color. I had some trouble figuring out the thumb on the left glove, so my first row has purl bumps. :( I managed to get it right on the right hand, however I also managed to forget to change the direction of the cables until mid way through the second cable repeat... I loved the pattern though, and I'll definitely make another pair. I think I'll make them a bit longer so they cover more of my fingers.

Before that I made a Ribbed Lace Bolero from 10 feet high.
I made this in leftover Lion Brand Cottonease in Lake. the pattern was easy enough, but I ended up not liking the way it felt on. I think it's a little to short for me, so I might have to find someone to give it to who is more of a "tiny bolero" person than I am.

Before that was Licorice Whip from Blue Alvarez.
Also made in the Lion Brand Cotton-ease in color Lake (I ordered waaaay too much). This was my first time doing any lace whatsoever, and knitting something that had to fit. I think it came out pretty well! I gave it to my mom for her birthday since I knew she would appreciate it. She's the one who taught me to knit and urged me to branch out from scarves for so long. I really need to get a photo of her in it since it fits her way better than it fit me, being as she's tiny. I changed the pattern only by shortening the sleeves.

I haven't taken photos of the ribbed lace bolero yet... not sure if I like it enough to!
